About the Project
How do we experience the places we live in?
Maps often appear objective, yet every map is shaped by choices—what is included, what is omitted, and whose perspective becomes visible. Vermessene Realitäten explored these hidden layers through artistic research, asking how personal experience can become a way of mapping public space.
As part of the project, we developed an interactive installation that invited visitors to participate in the creation of a constantly changing visual landscape. Rather than observing a finished artwork, every participant became an active contributor, allowing individual perceptions to merge into a temporary collective map.
The installation was presented during the project's public exhibition and closing event in Wurzen, Germany, where visitors engaged with the work alongside other artistic interventions exploring memory, landscape, and cultural geography.
Instead of producing a permanent representation of place, the installation revealed that every encounter creates its own unique version of reality—shaped by participation, presence, and shared experience.
Research Process
The installation emerged through an extensive artistic research process that included visual experiments, hand-drawn studies, material investigations, software development, and public testing.
Hundreds of visual elements, compositions, and mapping structures were developed before the final presentation. Throughout the project, artistic experimentation and technical development evolved together, gradually forming a visual language capable of translating individual experiences into collective imagery.
The project documented not only the finished installation but also the evolution of the creative process—from early sketches and prototypes to the final public presentation.
Final Presentation
The project concluded with a public presentation in Wurzen on 24 September 2022.
The event brought together artists, researchers, local institutions, and visitors. Alongside the interactive installation, the programme included artistic interventions, exhibitions, public discussions, and collaborative presentations, reflecting the project's interdisciplinary character.

"Imaginäre Räume rund um die Postmeilensäulen
Mit Juliana und Andrey Vrady konnte man sich „Via Leipziger Raum“ auf eine visuelle Projektion einlassen, „um imaginäre Räume um die Postmeilensäule aufzuspannen“. Besuchern konnten mit Hilfe künstlicher Intelligenz persönliche Emotionen entlockt werden, die als interaktive Installation sichtbar wurden. Zunächst auf dem Computermonitor, und mit Einbruch der Dunkelheit als schon Projektion an einer Hauswand.
Im Ergebnis werde deutlich, was der Mensch zwar wisse, ihm jedoch nicht immer bewusst sei. „Wir sind als Individuum alle einzigartig, wie auch die Orte, in denen wir leben einzigartig sind“, zeigte sich Juliana Vrady überzeugt davon."
